Dust, Static, and Plastic
Finally, after all these years, we have the chance to bring to you, the full album, free on the internet. Dust, Static, and Plastic was Josh Virgin's greatest achievement as a producer of underground, conscious, downbeat hip-hop and trip-hop music.
Technically, the album was released on Eye Q, a British imprint, in 1999, but most of the mixing, vocal production, and pre-production was done in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the creative direction of Butterbeat Records execs and family like Josh Virgin, Matt Rush, Ron Basques, Jason Heinrichs, and Patty Virgin.
Not to discount the work that was done in England. The post production, and the mastering for vinyl, in particular, were above and beyond the standards of the time, and even in this post golden era mp3 compressed format, the pop, hiss, and warm analog width of the original recordings can still be felt.
So it is without further ado, that we, the original Butterbeat crew, present to you, the few who still get it, Dust, Static, and Plastic, the only full length (CD release version at least) album ever produced by Josh Virgin and various other Butterbeat MCs and artists:
